R.I.P. NES Nation
approx. October 1996 - December 1997
If you liked the NES, check out Nephewsoft at
http://nephew.cjb.net. There you can download games I have created,
such as Nephew's Puzzle Pack with 4 unique puzzle games.
You can also play a game that may remind some of you of Shadowgate and Goonies II: Westerlies. I made this online adventure game in Java, and I think it captures much of the magic of original NES games. Visit Nephewsoft now!
After 1997, I -- Alex T. Moore, creator and former
webmaster of NES Nation -- handed the Nation over to Dogshell and Spofforth,
who maintained it and added to it.
Some time later, it was hacked and
destroyed.
The Nation helped to perpetuate the legacy of the Nintendo
Entertainment System, with its trailblazing games. The prevailing
ethos among members held that although the system's graphics and
sound capabilities were inferior to what was available at the time,
those limitations were transended with superior gameplay.
Nes Nation had idiosyncratic trivia games, manuals, hints, a "black market," reviews,
a chat room, a message board, a mailing list, a tutorial on making
a NES website, a section for letters
to the Eggplant Wizard...it was big. Although it no longer exists, it
is survived by several excellent NES websites, and a thriving NES
community.
Most of the NES Nation files have been destroyed. Some remain,
however. Some of these that remain only function partially, with
either broken links, missing images,
depricated HTML, or other factors in the way.
If you are a true NES fanatic, you may find these files useful in some
way. Feel free to use and distribute these files as you wish,
but, if you do so, please link to this page
(http://nesnation.tripod.com).
Also be sure to check out the resurrection project underway to bring Nes Nation back to the web!
If you're a fan of the old NES, you would probably enjoy the games I'm
making with my software powerhouse, Nephewsoft. Just go to
http://nephew.cjb.net. And tell them Nephew sent you. :-)
